About me

I am a freelance medical writer, working within medical communications, and have a special interest in oncology and ophthalmology.

I have 29 years of experience in medical communications and publishing and have been freelancing for the past 18 years. During these latter years, I have built enduring relationships with a number of clients and enjoy making new connections for shorter-term projects.

I work remotely from my office near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK, but am happy to attend on-site meetings where relevant. Usually, projects involve me working alongside your in-house editorial and/or design teams, on a project-by-project basis or through longer-term account-wide support.

As you can read in my testimonials, my clients describe me as 'organised', 'detail orientated', 'reliable, 'professional' and 'personable'.

Throughout my career, I have had the pleasure of working on numerous exciting and worthwhile projects and am grateful to still love the job that I do. I don't think I will ever tire of learning how complex the human body is or marvelling at the advances in medicine that are being made.

As well as being a freelance medical writer, I am a science geek, avid book reader and history enthusiast.

My guiding principles

Effective transmission of ideas and information – the goal of medical communication – relies on capturing the reader's attention and getting the point across clearly. Of course, with this being medical information, it is critical for the narrative to be unambigious and factually correct.

For me, these three pillars of relevance, clarity and accuracy are central to all my work.

Relevance

Translating medical data and facts into a narrative that is meaningful to the reader

Clarity

Delivering the information in a clear and logical manner so that it is easy to understand

Accuracy

Ensuring the content is reliable, credible and factually correct, and phrasing is precise
